I just really enjoy that headline for some reason.  And the accompanying mental picture.

I just got done reading Geraldine Ferraro's comments about not voting for Obama because he's been "terribly sexist".  My first reaction was one that a lot of Obama supporters have probably had in response to allegations of sexism:  Exasperation and anger.  

Most of these charges of Obama being sexist feel like they are more prompted by frustrations that people have with the world in which the candidates reside.  There have been claims of media bias, of Obama supporters who have said misogynistic things, of Republican attacks on Hillary as a woman.  One of the first times I read about a concrete instance where Obama was supposed to be sexist was in the Ferraro article (linked at http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/19/us/pol itics/19women.html?pagewanted=2&_r=3 &hp&adxnnlx=1211202069-t%20W8BIA 79SaiPKAtL173bw) where they cite Obama's "likable enough" comment in the New Hampshire debates.  I watched his comment, and could see both ways it could be interpreted.  It's obvious to me that it was meant to be a joke, and not at all one based on Hillary having a uterus.  However, to women who have lived in a world of misogyny, I could also see how the joke smacked of sexism, as a man saying something condescending to a woman.  

My question to Senator Clinton made headlines around the country on Saturday.  

The Senator came to my town of Eugene, Oregon, and delivered a wonderful stump speech about her qualifications for President and her plan for America.  As Meteor Blades said in his front page story today, she said a lot of things that I liked - REALLY liked, in fact - and some things I disagreed with.  It was a treat to get to hear her speak.

After her speech, she took questions from the audience.  The second question she took was mine.  Her response was emphatic, passionate, and articulate. I've seen it discussed by CBS News, NBC News, NPR and every local media outlet's coverage of the event.  Look up "Hillary Clinton Eugene" on Google News, and most of the news stories will describe the tough question from the "young man describing himself as an Obama supporter" and how she fielded it.

I am that young man.  And this is my response to her.

So I mentioned alegre by name specifically because she's (I'm going to assume alegre's female not because of any sexism, but simply because for some reason I've always read his/her blogs as written by a female) the one that wrote the diary (http://www.mydd.com/story/2008/3/25/2245 31/594) that (shockingly) rocketed to the top of the MyDD rec'd list.  This isn't meant to "call anyone out" in the diary title (though I will do that a little later), just simply making it clear that it's a rebuttal to that diary.

First of all, I'd like to take you back to my debating days.  I used to do an event called Public Debate, where students would stand up, make their points for six minutes or so, then the other team would stand up, make a rebuttal and construct their own case.

One of the funniest things to watch in a debate was when one team decided to make a list of about 15 points supporting their argument, then claim they were winning the round because the opponents failed/refused to refute every point in their speech.  I remember one specific debate where someone's pro-environment speech included the point "waterfalls are pretty", with the argument being that pretty things made people happy.

My heart and my brain can't take it anymore.  It's not that I don't think the battle is worthy, or that our side is capable of winning - it's that the fighting happening today is likely not going to determine that much right now.

I signed up to MyDD specifically because the blind, delusional comments by SOME of the Clinton supporters on this site made me absolutely sick.  My first diary wrote about how the Clinton supporters on this site are acting like 9/11 Truthers.  And I still believe that.

There are certain facts that Clinton supporters here seem unwilling or unable to digest.  Those are:

Todd had this to say about the decision by Florida's Congressional delegation to not support any kind of re-vote in their own state (emphasis mine):

Senator Clinton wants the delegates seated according to the vote in January; kos thinks it should be a 50-50 split. I'm not a fan of either. Look, it's no accident that Florida and Michigan are the only states in which Republican turnout exceeded Democratic turnout. Those were not real representations of the Democratic primary electorate and for state representatives to keep the will of their own constituents from counting in this historic election when the will of every other state in the country, even Puerto Rico and Guam, will, would be a true shame, especially when the dis-enfranchisement was a result of a scheme perpetrated by the Republican-led state legislature.

Oh, by the way?  Almost every single Florida DEMOCRAT voted to move the date forward.  Just look at the bill.

It's hilarious that everyone talks about "media bias" in favor of Obama, when Hillary gets positive news stories just by virtue of being Hillary.

When New Hampshire, which was supposed to be a heavy Hillary lean, ended up being a small percentage victory, everyone talked about how "she fought back" and "rose from the dead".  When she lost 11 (then 12) straight contests, no one talked about the insurmountable delegate lead or the lack of planning it demonstrated, but instead how "Super Tuesday II" was the "BIGGEST DAY EVER".

Now comes the news that Barack Obama will most likely win more delegates than Hillary did in Texas - a state that was "MUST-WIN" for Hillary.  And the silence is deafening.
